Aix-en-Provence is a graceful, cultured city.  It is a nursery for new artistic talent but also a refuge for wealthy retirees who enjoy the finer things in life.

Aix lies just 25 km north of Marseilles (famous for its bouillabaisse). But historically, culturally and socially it is a different planet from its neighbor.  Aix is complacently conservative, and a stunningly beautiful town.  Marseille's successful financiers, company directors and gangsters live in Aix. Hundreds of foreign students come to study here and there is a certain sophistication, almost of Parisian proportions in the air!

The university humanities and arts faculties Aix shares with Marseille are based in old Aix, where the original university was founded in 1409.  In the nineteenth century Aix was home to two of France's greatest contributors to painting and literature, Paul Cézanne and his close friend Émile Zola.

Cours Mirabeau

The apartment is located in vieille Aix (old quarter of Aix ) near the Place du Tanner, a very upscale neighborhood. It only takes 2 minutes to walk to the Cours Mirabeau. The Cours Mirabeau is called the "Champs-Élysées of southern France." 

The flat is a light filled, 42 square meters (450 square feet), one bedroom apartment on the first floor of a historic building. It is furnished with fashionable baroque style furniture, has an antique marble fireplace, high-beamed ceiling and antique floor tiles. There is a lovely kitchenette with bar, bathroom with bathtub and separate WC, satellite TV with UK and some US channels and broadband internet connection.  There are two famous Aix restaurants: Chez Grand Mère and Zinc d' Hugo just next to the apartment building.  The nearest parking lot is inside the newest upscale shopping plaza, La Rondote, which is less than 3 minutes walk from the apartment.
